The 27-year-old England international played for United at the age of 19, coming from Blackburn. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, he had a full season as a consistent starter until injuries began to limit his playing time for the Red Devils. He only made 18 appearances in the 2018–19 Premier League season, and even less the following year. He missed the whole 2020–21 season, and the next season, he hardly made an appearance. In May 2022, he played his final professional football game, playing for 15 minutes in a 3-0 victory over Brentford.

WHAT JONES SAID
He commented on BBC Radio 5 Live, “The career ended shorter than what I would have preferred.” “It was indeed frustrating, but at this moment, it is simple to see the glass half-full rather than the half-empty. I worked with the 18s a little bit after finishing my A-licence last season, which was excellent and worthwhile experience. It was enjoyable to me. In the end, I want to push myself by going back out there. I envision myself becoming a coach and eventually leading a squad. I am prepared to follow the steps I know to get there because I am adamant about getting there.”
