Chelsea are READY to spend up to €100M to sign Julián Álvarez this January!

Julian Alvarez is said to be receptive to returning to the Premier League following Chelsea’s reported interest in the Atletico Madrid striker.

Since his £82 million transfer from Manchester City in 2024, the Argentine has thrived in Madrid, finding the net 29 times in his debut campaign and adding 11 more goals this season.

Though the 25-year-old is settled at Atletico, he had hoped to continue collecting major honours after departing City as a two-time Premier League champion. However, silverware has proven elusive under Diego Simeone’s management.

Atletico finished third in La Liga last term and currently sit fourth, trailing league leaders Barcelona by eight points.

Before last summer’s window, Alvarez was linked with English clubs, with both Liverpool and Arsenal evaluating potential moves before ultimately pursuing other targets.

Arsenal secured Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting for £64 million, while Liverpool made high-profile signings of Alexander Isak from Newcastle and Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Several top European clubs are now tracking Alvarez ahead of potential summer approaches, including Barcelona and PSG, both long-time admirers of the former South American Footballer of the Year.

The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea have entered the race for his signature.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is seeking to strengthen his attack, particularly given the mixed performances of his current forwards. Marc Guiu has managed just four goals across all competitions this season, while Joao Pedro has fared somewhat better with eight. Liam Delap has contributed only one Premier League goal.

Spanish media suggest Chelsea are interested and that Alvarez would consider a Premier League comeback.

Although he wasn’t always a regular starter at City, Alvarez still netted 36 goals over two seasons while winning the Champions League, FA Cup, and two league titles.

Atletico have shown no inclination to sell, though reports indicate a summer departure could happen if clubs meet their €100 million (£87 million) valuation.

Addressing speculation about his future last month, Alvarez commented: ‘It doesn’t really affect me. I try to ignore it, though I’m aware of what’s being discussed. There’s a lot on social media—probably more noise online than actual substance. My focus is entirely on this season and what’s ahead with Atletico. I’m concentrating on my own development and on achieving success here.’

Alvarez and Atletico face a pivotal Champions League fixture against Galatasaray on Wednesday. Currently eighth in the group standings, Simeone’s team are aiming to finish in the top eight to secure automatic qualification for the knockout rounds.
