Ziyech finally left Stamford Bridge last summer after unsuccessful transfers to PSG and the Saudi Pro League, as he lost the respect of former Blues managers Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.
Although the attacking midfielder/winger’s loan move to Turkey was approved by manager Mauricio Pochettino, things haven’t gone as expected.
In 14 games, the 30-year-old has contributed six assists and four goals, with half of those goals coming in the Champions League 3-3 tie against Manchester United.
But nagging injuries and fitness concerns have limited his playing time and diminished his influence, which is understandably not what the club is most happy with.
In light of this, Galatasaray is prepared to terminate his loan and return him to west London, according to Turkish broadcaster NTV Spor, which is cited in the Daily Mail.
Two significant barriers could prevent this from occurring, therefore this should be taken with a grain of salt.
First off, Ziyech was called up to the Morocco side and will spend the entire January transfer window away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
He will be collaborating with players like Achraf Hakimi of PSG and Sofyan Amrabat of Manchester United in an effort to lead the Atlas Lions to their first AFCON victory since 1976.
Second, there appears to be misunderstanding regarding the terms of his loan agreement, as Galatasaray is required by Chelsea to purchase Ziyech at the end of the current campaign, with a reported cost of £2.5 million.
Other reports, however, contend that it is merely a purchase option—or possibly even a requirement, but only under specific circumstances.
If the former, there’s not much chance Ziyech would come back, but if he did, it would be a strange reunion because just a month ago, the player openly blasted club owner Todd Boehly.
After spending £34 million to sign for Chelsea in 2020, Ziyech left Ajax, scoring 14 goals and dishing out 13 assists in 107 appearances. Chelsea went on to win the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup, the Champions League, and two FA Cups in addition to one League Cup final.
