Frank Leboeuf has maintained that the remarks made by Thiago Silva’s wife had no bearing on Mauricio Pochettino’s choice to sit the player during Chelsea’s FA Cup game against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
After Chelsea’s consecutive Premier League losses to Wolves and Liverpool, Silva was benched just a few days after his wife appeared to demand that Pochettino be fired.
Pochettino claimed the choice was solely tactical before to the 3-1 victory against Villa, and Leboeuf appears to concur.
The World Cup winner told ESPN FC, “When everything goes wrong, you have a target, and the biggest and easiest one is the coach.”
“The players are beginning to criticise the coach, believing that the decisions and tactics are poor, but you have to pay attention to what people are saying.”
