“My Dream was always to play for Manchester United but I was forced out of the club-I will return to Manchester United on one condition”
Sebastian Kehl, the sporting director of Borussia Dortmund, stated that signing Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United would be too costly, making it seem doubtful that Dortmund will sign the on-loan player.
After splitting with Erik ten Hag and being shut out of Manchester United, Sancho, who had previously established himself as one of the top wingers in Europe during his first stint at Dortmund between 2017 and 2021, returned to Germany last month on a temporary contract.
Sancho has already remarked that returning to Dortmund is like going back “home” and that he thought about it frequently while he was at United. Kehl conceded that Dortmund’s lack of financial resources to acquire him in the summer may mean that his stay there won’t continue long. Ian Maatsen, a left-back on loan from Chelsea, is now at Dortmund.
Kehl said to Sky Sport Germany, “Unfortunately for both players, neither option was realistic.”
Referring to the £73 million sale to England, he continued, “If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two and a half years ago, then you know also that it might not be very, very difficult.”

“We naturally advocated for a [permanent] option on him – and also with Ian – but the negotiating position was not such that we could implement it and so we will accept it for now.”
United refused to let a buy option be a part of the final agreement, despite the fact that a return to his old Dortmund form may have seen his worth skyrocket once more. The club has previously used loan agreements as a similar strategy, most notably when Alexis Sanchez joined Inter in 2019.
Sancho hasn’t played for United since August, but in just three weeks this season, he’s already racked up more Bundesliga minutes than Premier League minutes in five months. The 23-year-old missed Friday’s goalless draw with Heidenheim due to injury, but he assisted Dortmund in their opening two games as they defeated Darmstadt and Koln.
