Xabi Alonso recently disclosed his decision to decline the offer to become Liverpool’s manager after Jurgen Klopp’s departure. Despite widespread speculation linking him to the position, Alonso chose to continue his tenure with Bayer Leverkusen, affirming his choice during a recent press briefing.
Alonso outlined several factors behind his commitment to Leverkusen. During his 18-month leadership, the club is on the brink of clinching their first Bundesliga title and remains competitive in the German Cup and Europa League, maintaining an impressive unbeaten run.
In an interview with TNT Sports, Alonso explained, “There were various factors influencing my decision to remain at the club. After a year, we’re in the process of building a team and fostering a strong team spirit here. The season has been remarkable so far, and we aim to continue this journey together. I genuinely feel like a part of it.”
He further emphasized that the timing didn’t seem right for him to take on the Liverpool role, reiterating his unwavering dedication to Leverkusen.
