‘I begged him to come to Manchester City, but he insisted on joining Arsenal.’ Rodri has claimed that his £45 million teammate wants to join Arsenal over Manchester City by JANUARY.
According to Spanish media, Arsenal are nearing an agreement to capture Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi before the January transfer deadline.
In the summer transfer window, Mikel Arteta strengthened his squad by bringing in Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya.
Arsenal finished second behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race last season, after leading for much of the season, and qualified for the Champions League.
That allowed them more money to spend in the transfer market, and there are indications in Spain that they are working on a move for Sociedad midfielder Zubimendi as they attempt to strengthen their team.
The Spain international has already been linked with Arsenal, and now Spanish newspaper Nacional claims that the Gunners are ‘near to stealing’ a ‘favorite’ of Barcelona manager Xavi away from him.
Xavi is a great fan of the midfielder, but Arsenal have’set their sights’ on Zubimendi, who has 143 appearances for Real Sociedad, as Arteta tries to ‘complete rebuilding’ his squad.
And any deal is now’more of a fantasy than a prospect’ for Xavi, with Arsenal able to trigger his €60 million (£51 million) release clause ‘without negotiating’ with Barcelona in the hopes of lowering the sum.
After prioritizing Declan Rice over the summer, Arsenal are now ‘pursuing his signature’ in January, with Arteta making his compatriot his ‘top priority to bolster the team’ in the winter.
After a strong start to the season, Arsenal go to Everton on Sunday, but former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes the Toffees will restrict Arteta’s side to a draw.
“There are rumors that Everton are in the process of changing owners,” Berbatov told Betfair. They haven’t had a good start to their campaign, and they need the points.
“It’s not ideal for them to play Arsenal.” Arsenal plays good football, and Everton must be strategic against them. If they lack the talent to compete with Arsenal, they will have to beat them physically. They will have to bully them slightly. Everton used to have a lot of good players. Players you would not want to play against because their elbows were flying everywhere. They must employ their powerful sides, even if it is unpleasant.
“In a desperate situation, desperate measures are required to obtain the points.” Everton will not have a good season if they continue in their current form. However, and this may come as a surprise, I believe this game will be a draw. “I predict a 1-1 tie.”
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson says he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Everton held them to a draw, but he believes Arsenal will win.
“Everton strangely turns up in these big games,” Merson told Sportskeeda, “so I wouldn’t be surprised if this one ends all square.” They’ll start putting all their chances away one day, and that will be the day they click.
“That said, Arsenal will undoubtedly be overwhelming favorites in this game and will be under pressure to get all three points if Manchester City wins.” This game is far from over, but I believe Arsenal will rise to the occasion and take all three points.
“While Arsenal have had their fair share of issues in recent weeks, Gabriel Jesus’ return to full fitness is a huge boost.” With UEFA Champions League football on the horizon, they will require timely contributions from everyone in the squad in order to compete on all fronts. “I predict Everton 0-2 Arsenal.”
