Reece James has been Stripped off the Captaincy batch and his successor has been named

Chelsea players contest Thiago Silva’s leadership decision –
According to reports, several Chelsea players believe Thiago Silva to be the team captain since it would be more advantageous.

One of the first choices made by the Argentine coach upon taking over as head coach was who would wear the armband throughout the 2023–24 season.

Silva was obviously considered for the position given his background and standing in the global game, especially at a time when Chelsea was building a youthful team.

Reece James, a graduate of the academy, and Conor Gallagher, a third-choice skipper, were chosen as captain and deputy to James, respectively, although Pochettino gave preference to James and Gallagher.

That plan, however, has not turned out as expected, as Pochettino has had to rotate that specific task frequently because of injuries to James and Chilwell.

Consequently, Gallagher, who has started every Premier League game this season save one, has been selected captain more times than he ever would have thought possible in his second season as a senior.

In addition, another young Englishman from the academy, Levi Colwill, was selected captain for last week’s 2-1 loss against Manchester United in Gallagher’s place.

Some first team players have reportedly questioned why Silva hasn’t been given the starting job, according to The Guardian.

Despite Pochettino’s continued support from the team as a whole, the article implies that there is a sense of slight against the 39-year-old.

Pochettino has already given an explanation for his choice, implying that he preferred a domestic core and players who had a greater degree of club experience.

However, it is alleged that certain members of the group believe Silva ought to have been tasked with leading Chelsea on the pitch this season.

Prior to coming off the bench for Sunday’s 2-0 Premier League loss at Everton, the Brazil international had been a constant in the lineup.

Due to his September 40th birthday, sources have suggested that Silva is not expected to receive a contract extension and may opt to go on a free transfer in the summer.
