Due to injury, Kieran Trippier will miss Newcastle United’s next matches against Chelsea and Manchester City.
Later, Eddie Howe acknowledged that Trippier had hurt his calf, but he was unable to provide an indication of the severity of the problem or the length of time he may be sidelined.
The manager stated, “He felt a pain in his calf; hopefully, it’s not too bad.”
We’ll wait and see how severe that is, but it was encouraging to see him walk along the touchline rather than hobble.
Scans now show that, although the injury is not as catastrophic as initially thought, it is severe enough to keep the 33-year-old sidelined until possibly the end of the month, according to Mail Sport.
As Newcastle looks to climb up to seventh place in the Premier League, he will thus be absent from Monday night’s trip to Stamford Bridge.
Trippier’s injury is even more concerning for the Magpies because it will keep them out of the FA Cup quarterfinal matchup with holders Manchester City the following Saturday night.
He is now doubtful for England’s March friendly against Brazil and Belgium due to the injury.
Trippier’s absence from these matches will be a major setback for Gareth Southgate’s preparations, as the right-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James are also sidelined with injuries. Trippier is anticipated to be in the Three Lions team for Euro 2024.
He is, at the absolute least, anticipated to return for Newcastle’s match against West Ham on March 31 following the international break.
