“I have been coaching for 10 years and this is the team where the players are most similar to me in terms of pride- Brighton Boss Roberto De Zerbi makes feelings clear on future amid Manchester United Job and Erig Ten Hag Sacking.

After arriving home, Roberto De Zerbi told Serie A clubs he wasn’t prepared to return for a prestigious Italian position while reaffirming his love for Brighton.

After leading Albion to a glamorous Europa League last-16 matchup with Roma, the former Sassuolo manager has emerged as one of the most attractive coaches in Europe. Along with the Italian powerhouses Milan, Juventus, and Napoli, Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich may be searching for new managers this summer.

The 44-year-old De Zerbi last oversaw a Champions League game in Italy in October 2021, when his team, Shakhtar Donetsk, faced Inter Milan. “It’s not true that I don’t think about it,” De Zerbi said when asked if he would return to coach in Italy.

“Normally, I follow my happiness, and at this moment, that is where I am. It is an honour for me to compete at this level with this team. Winning makes me happy, but even losses have particular meaning.

I plan to return to Italy eventually. I have no idea when that day will arrive. However, my decision to travel to Shakhtar two or three years ago was motivated by my desire to find a way out of Italy. I won’t go into too much detail, but there were certain aspects of Italy that I found objectionable. I choose to take up a new task.

De Zerbi guided Brighton to a sold-out Stadio Olimpico, sixth place in the previous campaign, and their first-ever trip to Europe.

He remarked, “I am so happy to be back here with my team.” “My teams and my players usually make me fall in love.” It took place in Shakhtar as well as in Foggia, Benevento, and Sassuolo. However, this is a squad that I genuinely adore; even when they lose 3-0, they constantly pick themselves up and play even harder.

“After ten years of coaching, this is the team whose players most closely resemble me in terms of pride, drive, dignity, and motivation.” The senior and younger players share my perspective on football. I have faith in them. Not only are we here to make it to the last eight, but we are also making history.

Daniele De Rossi, the head coach of Roma who took over for Jose Mourinho in January, called his Italian friend a “genius.” In response, De Zerbi said, “I don’t see myself as a genius or better than others, but I don’t lack courage or fear hard work.”

Although Brighton has had difficulty in the Premier League this year, they have won their last four games in Europe without giving up and have not yet lost on the road.

“I’m here for different reasons and it’s even nicer,” Pascal Gross remarked, “but Gladiator is one of my favourite films and Rome is a beautiful city—I was here last year.”
