Erik ten Hag is under duress following a lacklustre second season in Manchester United’s leadership.
The Dutch coach’s future is in doubt because Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new minority owner, isn’t sure he can lead United back to the top of English football.
Due to this uncertainty, Zinedine Zidane and other elite managers have been connected to the Old Trafford hot set.
With his departure from Real Madrid in 2021, the renowned Frenchman has not been employed.
Zidane has two stints as manager of the team he played for. From 2016 to 2018, the team won the Champions League three times in a row. In 2019, Zidane returned to the team and led Los Blancos to the league championship.
This past weekend, Zidane returned to Madrid for a legends game versus Porto. Prior to the game, he discussed his reasons for leaving his role over three years ago.
According to Marca, Zidane stated, “I know football and I know the demands of a club like Madrid.”
“I understand that you have to leave when you don’t win, but everything I have worked so hard to build on a daily basis—my relationships with the players and the 150 people who work with and around the team—has been forgotten here, and that is very important.”
The former France international listed three requirements that a team had to meet in order to be continuously successful, implying that he wouldn’t accept the United position unless those requirements were met.
“I went here to win trophies because I am a born winner, but there are other people, feelings, and life beyond this.
And I get the impression that these things are not appreciated, and that people do not realise that this is also how a great club keeps its dynamics intact.
I’ve even received some criticism for it. These days, a great club’s bench coach only has two seasons left in them, if that.
