The favourite to become the next Liverpool manager has been named. Jamie Carragher has just confirmed it! 😱
Jamie Carragher has proposed Roberto De Zerbi as a top contender to step into Jurgen Klopp’s shoes as Liverpool’s manager, especially in light of Ruben Amorim’s apparent unavailability for the role.
In response to a surprising update from David Ornstein of The Athletic, Carragher shared his thoughts on Twitter, suggesting that De Zerbi could emerge as the frontrunner.
He highlighted the interest previously shown by Brighton’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, in De Zerbi during his time at Bournemouth, indicating a potential connection.
Carragher tweeted, “Richard Hughes wanted De Zerbi at Bournemouth, so he must be the favourite if this is true. Ornstein doesn’t get much wrong tbf!”
Although De Zerbi has steered Brighton to significant achievements, such as European qualification and a Europa League round of 16 appearance, his recent performance with the team has been less stellar.
Brighton’s current position at 10th place in the Premier League may not be the strongest endorsement for him to take on the monumental task of succeeding Klopp at Liverpool.
Despite his successful tenure at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he secured multiple league titles, De Zerbi has yet to clinch a major trophy as a manager, which could be a factor for Liverpool’s decision-makers.
While there’s potential seen by Hughes in De Zerbi’s capabilities for Liverpool, Carragher’s speculation based solely on past interest might not fully align with the club’s high standards and aspirations.
Ultimately, Liverpool’s board will carefully select a manager who can meet the lofty expectations set by Klopp and continue the team’s legacy of success.
