Erig Ten Hag broke down in tears after Key Manchester United player who was supposed to be the main man against Manchester City in the FA Cup Final broke his angle in training this morning
A chance to compete in an FA Cup final, according to Erik ten Hag, has spurred certain Manchester United players to get fit again.
Ten Hag selected two goalkeepers on the bench and five youth players without a start between them during United’s 4-0 thumping at Crystal Palace at the beginning of the month due to the team’s extreme depletion.
Just three United players are out of the starting lineup for Saturday’s championship match against Manchester City, out of 65 instances this season where a player’s illness or injury prevented them from playing.
Harry Maguire has been sidelined for the previous three weeks owing to a muscle ailment, Tyrell Malacia has missed the entire season due to a knee injury, and Luke Shaw hasn’t played since February 18 because of a hamstring issue.
Anthony Martial, Mason Mount, and Victor Lindelof are all eligible for selection this weekend, according to Ten Hag. Due to a hamstring injury, Lindelof has missed eight weeks of play. In the past seven months, Mount has made two starts, and Martial last had an appearance on December 30.
Lindelof will be sold by United, Martial will be freed next month, and Mount has had a terrible first season since joining for £60 million.
November and April were the joint-highest number of injuries United had ever reported in a month—ten. Last week’s victories against Newcastle and Brighton saw the return of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Marcus Rashford from injury.
In March and April, Varane, Lindelof, and Martinez all suffered injuries within a five-day span. At the time, United stated they were hopeful the three would be ready to play again in May. Martial’s recovery from the groin surgery he underwent in late January is seven weeks behind schedule.
Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes were only out of the game for a week despite United suffering four injuries in May. Ten Hag agreed, saying, “It will absolutely inspire players to compete in a cup final and all the players are anxious for it.” You must play to the best of your abilities since this game will have high standards.
“To participate in this game and make a contribution, you must be in good physical and mental health. The athletes are seasoned and aware of this.
