Manchester United manager Erig Ten Hag has been sacked this morning but he will be leaving the club after FA Cup Final against Manchester City

Following Saturday’s FA Cup final, Manchester United has made the decision to fire manager Erik ten Hag, a source claims.

In his second season at Old Trafford, the Dutchman has been under intense criticism over his future after managing an injury-ravaged team to an eighth-place Premier League finish.

Unless United defeats Manchester City on Saturday, they won’t play in Europe in 2024–2025; nevertheless, The Guardian notes that even a win won’t be enough to retain Ten Hag in his position.

Along with Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank, and Thomas Tuchel, the Red Devils have already begun searching the market for a replacement for the former Ajax manager. They have held conversations with Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, who is also on the list of possible candidates.

Pochettino, who abruptly announced his resignation from Chelsea following just one season, is rumored to have been made aware of the possible opening at United.

Ten Hag had a rough beginning to his time at United, but in his first season, he helped the team win the Carabao Cup and third place in the league—their first league trophy in six years.

But it’s been a whole other story this term. Early in the season, the squad struggled due to uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership, which led to a lackluster performance in the Champions League, where they placed last in their group.

Despite having a roster that is severely injured all over, especially in defense, Ten Hag’s coaching and in-game strategies have come under scrutiny during several especially lackluster 2023–2024 campaigns.

Although their previous record versus City makes for difficult reading, the 54-year-old may yet follow in the footsteps of former United manager and fellow countryman Louis van Gaal by winning the FA Cup in his final game as manager. The Red Devils had suffered defeats in four of the last five encounters between the local rivals, including the two league games this season that concluded with a 6-1 overall score against Pep Guardiola’s team.
