After nine seasons, Anthony Martial has officially announced his exit from Manchester United.
After paying an initial £36 million to sign with AS Monaco in 2015, Martial has scored 90 goals in 317 appearances.
However, he has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play during his time at Old Trafford, which has finally led United to decide against renewing his contract.
As a result, when his contract expires, Martial will be leaving on a free transfer, joining players like Raphael Varane and Brandon Williams.
When United defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final, he bid farewell to the supporters following the team’s last home game of the campaign.
He wrote a lengthy message on Monday night announcing his departure and thanking teammates, staff, and fans for their support.
Martial said on Instagram, addressing the message to United supporters: “I write to you today to say farewell, and I do it with tremendous passion.” It’s time for me to start a new chapter in my career after nine amazing years with the club.
“It has been an amazing honor for me to wear this shirt and play in front of you, the greatest fans in the world, since I moved here in 2015!
“You have always been there for me, through the good times and the bad.”I have always found motivation in your dedication and drive.
“I want to sincerely thank you for everything that you have done for me. I will always cherish the memories you gave me, the music you sang, and your passion for the club.
“I also want to thank all of my teammates, the technical staff, and every club member I have encountered in my nine years here. Being able to tell you about these situations makes me proud.
“My heart will always belong to Manchester United.” This club has had a lasting impact on my career and given me the amazing chance to perform in front of you. I’m departing to pursue other opportunities, but I’ll always be a Red Devil and I’ll be intensely interested in the club’s performance.
