Ten Hag sack? Bad news for ‘bemused’ Man Utd boss as Romano confirms fresh ‘meetings’ over replacement

According to Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd “had discussions with the agents of other managers” in the past few days, which is concerning for Erik ten Hag’s employment security.

Under the Dutchman, Ten Hag’s Red Devils enjoyed a successful debut season, winning the FA Cup, the League Cup, and finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

His second season started off disastrously, as Man Utd finished seventh this year and were eliminated from Europe prior to Christmas after coming last in their Champions League group.

While some believe that Ten Hag will have another great season with the FA Cup trophy, others find it difficult to forget the subpar play and outcomes that led to the FA Cup final.

Romano’s remarks on Tuesday, about Ten Hag, also include the transfer expert’s assertion that Man Utd has been consulting with other managers lately.

“We’re still waiting for Manchester United’s ultimate decision on Erik ten Hag, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe likely to be important on this,” Romano wrote in his Caught Offside blog. However, I can also mention that Man United has met with the agents of several managers in the previous few days alone.

“There are other contenders as well as Thomas Tuchel, who is interested in the position. United wants to make sure they have choices in case they decide to fire Ten Hag. This week is critical; United will decide whether to keep Ten Hag or make a change, but one thing is for sure: they are maintaining touch in case someone steps up to take his position.

Ten Hag is also hoping to hear out this week if Man Utd will opt to keep him or not, according to Sky Sports writer Kaveh Solhekol.

“Manchester United’s attitude was that they were going to conduct an end-of-season review,” Solhekol stated. They’re going to examine everything that transpired during the season, which began a week ago.

“One would assume they would decide whether to extend Erik ten Hag’s contract, which is still in effect, or find a replacement.

Ten Hag is on vacation and is awaiting news of what will transpire. Based on the facts I have, he hopes to find out this week whether he’s staying or leaving.

“Clearly, he needs to resolve his contractual obligations if he is to go. But he’s a highly sought-after man, and should United decide he’s not the right fit, he wants to get back to managing as soon as possible.

Since they have been in this position since January, you would believe that the new minority owners had a solid understanding of Ten Hag. They interact with him on the training field and observe the team’s activities.

“You could see Ten Hag being perplexed by the situation and asking himself, ‘The season is over, why am I being left in the dark and not told what’s going on?’
