Liverpool New Arne Slott is set to sign Manchester City Treble winner as Liverpool’s first signing this season for £60m. Deal moving faster than expected, Agreement has been reached with player.
Arne Slot has asked Liverpool to pay £51.4 million for a player also being pursued by Manchester City.
Slot, the Dutch coach, is expected to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool’s manager this summer, following Klopp’s departure after nine years.
Liverpool has reached an agreement with Slot’s current team, Feyenoord, to bring the 45-year-old to Anfield, although the move hasn’t been officially announced yet.
Slot has shown enthusiasm for managing Liverpool and anticipates the deal will be finalized shortly.
With Feyenoord’s Eredivisie season concluding this weekend, Slot is already planning for his new squad.
He is particularly interested in acquiring a new playmaker, with Dani Olmo of RB Leipzig being his top choice. The 26-year-old Spaniard can operate in central positions or on the wings, enhancing Liverpool’s attacking options.
According to the Spanish outlet Nacional, Slot has urged Liverpool to trigger Olmo’s £51.4m release clause before other interested clubs, such as Barcelona and Manchester City, make their moves. City has previously expressed interest in Olmo, with Pep Guardiola being an admirer.
Liverpool has experience dealing with Leipzig, having signed Dominik Szoboszlai last summer by activating his £60m release clause.
Despite Szoboszlai having a mixed season, Liverpool remains confident in pursuing another Leipzig player.
The release clause for Olmo should streamline the acquisition process, unlike City’s protracted negotiations with Josko Gvardiol last summer.
Olmo is set to represent Spain in Euro 2024 in Germany this summer, where they will compete against Italy, Croatia, and Albania in the group stages.
