Manchester United are reportedly considering a surprising trade to bring Brazilian international Raphinha from Barcelona to Old Trafford. Initial reports from Spain indicated that Barcelona were prepared to offer the £68 million-rated player along with additional cash to acquire Mainoo from United.

However, the latest suggestions indicate that Manchester United might be looking to exchange Jadon Sancho for Raphinha during the upcoming summer transfer window. Sancho, who was loaned to Borussia Dortmund mid-season after a fallout with manager Erik ten Hag, is unlikely to return to United if Ten Hag remains in charge. Sancho played a key role in Dortmund’s journey to the UEFA Champions League final during his loan period.

According to Catalan source Nacional, Dortmund are interested in making Sancho’s move permanent but are unable to meet the £40 million asking price. As a result, Manchester United have proposed a swap deal, offering Sancho in exchange for Raphinha, who Barcelona are willing to let go.

Raphinha, 27, was instrumental in Barcelona’s 2022-23 La Liga title win but has seen his playing time reduced due to the emergence of Lamine Yamal on the right wing. Last season, he started only 17 league games but still managed to contribute to over 20 goals across all competitions for Xavi’s side. Raphinha’s addition could significantly bolster Manchester United’s right-wing options, which has been a weak area for the team.
