Chelsea Star Ian Maatsen has signed contract with this shocking Premier League for £40m after leaving Borussia Dortmund on loan.
In order to sign Dutch defender Ian Maatsen, Aston Villa and Chelsea have agreed on a cost.
The 22-year-old will likely cost between £35 million and £40 million, depending on possible add-ons. The transfer is subject to a physical since Villa Park is expecting the left-back to sign a six-year contract.
Maatsen, who advanced to the competition’s final while on loan at Borussia Dortmund in the second part of the previous season, chose Villa because it offered Champions League play the next season.
The Blues have decided to sell Maatsen separately despite having explored adding Villa striker Jhon Duran as part of a swap deal.
After a successful loan period, Dortmund made a bid to sign Maatsen earlier this month, but they were hesitant to pay the entire £35 million asking price.
In January, Maatsen agreed to a 12-month contract extension, but it had a release provision that would probably cause him to leave this summer.
As of this now, he is in Germany for Euro 2024 with the Netherlands national team, and they are playing France on Friday in Leipzig. As such, he has not yet signed a contract or gone through the Midlands physical.
After signing with Chelsea in 2019 from PSV Eindhoven, Maatsen proved himself on many loan stints at Charlton, Coventry, Burnley, and Dortmund. However, under Mauricio Pochettino, he struggled to break through during the previous campaign.
Having participated in 16 games for the team, he is leaving Stamford Bridge.
