Former Chelsea Star and Manager Frank Lampard reveals reason he recently stayed away from Cristiano Ronaldo despite being in same hotel
Frank Lampard explained the reason he kept away from Cristiano Ronaldo on holiday despite being in the same hotel as the Portuguese mega-star.
Tuesday saw Roberto Martinez’s Portugal come back from behind to defeat the Czech Republic 2-1 in Group F thanks to a goal from Francisco Conceicao in the 92nd minute.
Ronaldo and his Portugal teammates mainly struggled in front of goal during the match, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner being one of those who missed a number of significant opportunities.
Although Ronaldo didn’t put on a particularly impressive show in the opening match of Euro 2024, he still made history by becoming the first player to appear in six European Championships—his first tournament was back in 2004.
Despite being 39 years old and in perfect form, Lampard told the BBC that he avoided Ronaldo while on vacation, presumably out of embarrassment.
A few months back, the England and Chelsea veteran quipped that he couldn’t spend much time with the superstar and donned a t-shirt when he posed for pictures because of the Al Nassr forward’s “amazing” body.
“I ran into him on vacation a few months back. I was at the same hotel on the beach, and thankfully his sunspot was every day a little down from me,” Lampard remarked.

“I made careful to keep away from him since he was in amazing form,” said Ronaldo, who missed many crucial opportunities against the Czech Republic (Getty). I thus gave him some space.
Because of what an amazing player he has been, I pulled him over so we could have a picture with my kid. I immediately put on my t-shirt and we got a great photo.
“I observed that he was accompanying his personal trainer to the gym twice a day. only demonstrates his commitment to his work.
“As he walked back, I gave him a ripple of applause while I was drinking a beer!”
