Benfica has accepted United’s take-it-or-leave-it bid for the 19-year-old sensation. With a jaw-dropping £59 million on the table, the Portuguese giants have finally relented, paving the way for Neves to make his way to Old Trafford. 🏟️ This is not just a signing; it’s a statement of intent from Manchester United. Neves, who has dazzled fans and pundits alike with his extraordinary talent and maturity, is set to bring a new era of excitement to the Premier League

Manchester United have reportedly made a final offer for Benfica’s young star Joao Neves, as per the Portuguese publication Record (page 15). The club is aiming to enhance their defensive midfield options this summer, with Neves being one of their key targets.

Last month, United’s initial bid of £51 million for Neves was rejected. Record now states that the club has increased their offer to £59 million. This is their final offer, and it remains uncertain if Benfica will agree to the sale.

Neves, 19, has a release clause of £102 million in his contract. Benfica’s president, Rui Costa, is eager to keep Neves for the 2024/25 season. While a summer departure hasn’t been entirely dismissed, Benfica would likely need at least £85 million to consider a sale.

Neves would be a valuable acquisition for United, having had an outstanding breakout season with Benfica. He excelled in the defensive midfield position, maintaining a 90% passing accuracy, winning two tackles and six duels per game, and averaging 6.4 recoveries while completing 62% of his take-ons. Despite his young age, Neves has shown significant maturity, with Costa referring to him as a “born leader.”

While securing Neves would be a major coup for United, it might require a higher fee to persuade Benfica. Given United’s constrained transfer budget, making another bid seems unlikely. They might instead redirect their attention to signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.
