Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia was reportedly hospitalized following a collision with a suspected drunk driver earlier this month. Malacia was a passenger in a Range Rover owned by his teammate, Marcus Rashford, who was in a separate vehicle at the time of the incident.

The accident occurred on July 16 when Rashford’s Range Rover, driven by one of his friends with Malacia in the passenger seat, was struck by a black Mercedes C220 AMG sport.

According to The Sun, the female driver of the Mercedes was detained by police at the scene and later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving before being taken to Macclesfield Hospital for a check-up.

Malacia and the driver of Rashford’s Range Rover were also advised to visit the hospital but were later cleared by medical staff. Both Malacia and Rashford resumed training with Manchester United the following day. Rashford traveled to Los Angeles with his teammates for a pre-season tour in the USA, while Malacia stayed in the UK to continue his recovery from an injury that sidelined him for the entire previous season.

Earlier in the month, Rashford received a six-month driving ban after being caught driving at 104mph on the M60, claiming he was speeding because he thought he was being chased.

Additionally, Rashford had previously crashed his £700,000 Rolls Royce last September after leaving the club’s Carrington training ground. He participated in a pre-season match against Norwegian team Rosenborg earlier this month but missed the following game against Rangers due to a minor injury.

Despite not reaching double figures last season, manager Erik ten Hag, with assistance from new coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, remains optimistic about Rashford’s potential for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
