Jim Ratcliffe, who partially owns Manchester United, is facing difficulties in convincing Zinedine Zidane to take over as the club’s manager from Erik ten Hag. Ratcliffe sees Zidane as the perfect fit to lead the team, especially given Ten Hag’s current struggles.

According to the Daily Mirror, Ratcliffe is keen to bring Zidane to Manchester United, believing the French legend has the qualities needed to revive the club’s fortunes. Zidane, who has not managed since his departure from Real Madrid in 2021, has long desired to coach the French national team. However, with Didier Deschamps still in charge, this goal remains out of reach.

Ratcliffe has made several attempts to lure Zidane to Manchester United, but the former star of Real Madrid, Juventus, and France remains reluctant. Zidane has previously expressed concerns about managing in England, particularly due to his limited fluency in English. In an interview with L’Equipe, he said, “Would I want to go to Manchester United? I understand English, but I’m not completely fluent in it. I know some coaches go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently. Many factors come into play to win; it’s about the global context. I know what I need to win.”

Erik ten Hag is currently under significant pressure after a poor start to the Premier League season, with Manchester United earning just three points from their first three matches, including a crushing 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool. This has fueled speculation that Ten Hag could soon be dismissed, with British bookmakers suggesting he is a leading candidate for the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Following the heavy defeat to Liverpool, the odds of Ten Hag being fired have increased, making him the frontrunner among Premier League managers for dismissal. Although many expected Ten Hag to be let go after a disappointing 2023-24 season—during which Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League and failed to progress past the Champions League group stage—the club decided to keep him.

Manchester United conducted an internal review of Ten Hag’s position and considered various replacements but ultimately chose to retain him. While this decision has given Ten Hag a temporary reprieve, many experts and bookmakers believe his future remains uncertain.

Several notable managers, including former England coach Gareth Southgate and ex-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, are being considered as potential successors. However, despite Ratcliffe’s efforts, it appears unlikely that Zidane will join Manchester United, underscoring the challenges the club faces in finding a suitable replacement for Ten Hag.
