Flood warnings have been issued across various parts of England this week, disrupting at least one football match due to severe weather conditions.

Newcastleโ€™s Carabao Cup fixture against AFC Wimbledon, scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed as a result of major flooding.

The start of the week has brought challenging weather, with the Met Office issuing significant flood alerts, particularly in southern England, which includes areas like Wimbledon.

AFC Wimbledon, which recently returned to its original home at Plough Lane after previously relocating to Milton Keynes, has been forced to postpone the match after heavy overnight flooding damaged the pitch. The game was initially set for Tuesday at 7:45 PM and will be rescheduled at a later date.

AFC Wimbledon released a statement apologizing for the inconvenience, stating: “Due to substantial flooding from the River Wandle and nearby areas, including our Cherry Red Records Stadium, the Carabao Cup match against Newcastle United has been postponed.”

Aside from this match, six other Carabao Cup third-round ties are still set to take place this week. These involve Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, who will all play at home. Aston Villa is set to visit Wycombe, while Leicester will travel to face Walsall.
