VERY SAD Bruno Fernandes news has been announced this evening as Manchester United Manager Erik Ten Hag has stripped him off the Captain Batch and the new Captain has been named. A FLOP without discipline can’t be leading a Squad.
In an action-packed 3-3 draw between Manchester United and Porto on Thursday, Bruno Fernandes was handed his second red card in consecutive matches.
This incident made things even more challenging for Erik ten Hag’s side, as they were left without their captain in the final 10 minutes, still battling to equalize after going behind by two goals. Although Fernandes’ red card in the previous match against Tottenham was later rescinded, this dismissal marked his second in just four days.
Despite being sent off, Fernandes remains eligible to play in Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday. However, according to UEFA regulations, any player shown a red card is automatically suspended from UEFA competitions, meaning the 30-year-old midfielder will be unavailable for the Europa League fixture against Fenerbahce later in the month.
The red card resulted from two high-boot challenges during the Porto game, both of which earned him yellow cards. Since UEFA classified the offense as minor, Fernandes is cleared to feature in the matches against Aston Villa and Brentford before Manchester United faces Fenerbahce, managed by José Mourinho, on October 24.
Manchester United initially dominated the match, with goals from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund giving them a 2-0 lead at Porto’s Estádio do Dragão. However, Porto quickly fought back, equalizing through Pepe and Samu Omorodion.
When Fernandes was sent off in the 81st minute, it seemed United’s chances of salvaging a result were slim, but Harry Maguire scored in stoppage time to secure a dramatic equalizer. “We started brightly, scoring two great goals, but we lost our grip,” Ten Hag reflected post-match.
“Our opening was strong, the middle was shaky, but we finished well. Playing in Porto is always difficult, so to come back and draw 3-3 after trailing is a positive sign. The team showed determination, but our defense needs more consistency,” he concluded.
