ROBBERY OF THE YEAR. How was that not an offside..?! Fans is going wild after referee awarded Manchester City deadline goal. What is Football turning into 😥💔, VAR is making Football Boring and less attractive 😱😱

Referee Chris Kavanagh chose not to overturn John Stones’ late goal for Manchester City against Wolves, despite a recommendation from VAR for an on-field review.

Stones initially believed he had secured a last-minute victory for City with a header, only to realize the goal had been disallowed. After celebrating with fans, the decision went to VAR, where official Stuart Atwell advised Kavanagh to check the pitchside monitor. The disallowance was due to Bernardo Silva’s position near Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa during the header.

It’s common for decisions to be reversed after a monitor review, but Kavanagh upheld the goal, leading to further celebration from City supporters.

The Premier League later clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that the goal was initially disallowed because Silva was in an offside position, potentially blocking the goalkeeper’s view. However, VAR concluded that Silva was not obstructing Sa’s vision or influencing the play, prompting Kavanagh to confirm the goal.

While Silva was offside and ducked as Stones scored, his positioning to the side of Sa meant he wasn’t directly in the goalkeeper’s line of sight.

This goal marked Stones’ second crucial late contribution for City, following his equalizer against Arsenal the previous month.

The victory moved City to the top of the Premier League, with the result pending Liverpool’s upcoming match against Chelsea. City had once again come from behind, as Jorgen Strand Larsen gave Wolves an early lead before Josko Gvardiol equalized with a powerful strike. Despite several impressive saves from Sa, Stones’ goal secur

ed the win.
