Man United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe told he has made a “schoolboy error” at the club. Kieth Wyness, who is the former chief of Premier League club Everton, feels that Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe made a schoolboy error at the club. Wyness believes that Ratcliffe’s decision to allow manager Erik ten Hag increase his backroom staff is a mistake and it is going to cost the club in the future.

Keith Wyness, former CEO of Premier League club Everton, believes that Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe may have made a crucial misstep at the club.

Wyness suggests that Ratcliffe’s decision to allow Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, to expand his backroom team might turn out to be problematic in the future.

After some uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future during the previous summer, Manchester United decided to back him and permitted the Dutch manager to strengthen his coaching staff.

Ten Hag brought in former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dutch coach Rene Hake as assistants.

However, with the team’s rocky start to the current season, questions have arisen over some of Ten Hag’s choices, particularly in team selection and recruitment.

In an interview with Football Insider, Wyness remarked:

“He’s brought in a significant number of Dutch staff members. That, I believe, was Ratcliffe’s key mistake—giving Ten Hag the freedom to assemble such a large backroom team after there were discussions about his possible exit last season.

“This situation poses a challenge for Manchester United in managing it effectively. It will be interesting to see how things develop, as it could become another issue if changes are needed this season.”

Following their recent win against Brentford, Manchester United is currently in 11th place in the Premier League, well behind the top four.

Ten Hag continues to face mounting pressure to secure his role at the club. Despite receiving significant backing in the summer transfer window, he has yet to build on the momentum from last season’s FA Cup success.

Manchester United has a track record of making unpredictable decisions, from high transfer fees to discontinuing Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassadorial role. Handing Ten Hag complete control may carry long-term consequences.

The club is reportedly considering several high-profile managers as potential replacements for Ten Hag, with the next few weeks likely

to decide his future.
