He did a lot of mistakes. His performance was so poor and I don’t like players like that. We almost the game because of him.”-Ruben Amorim calls out Man Utd player in brutal analysis of Ipswich draw afte realizing how badly he performed.

Ruben Amorim was candid about Manchester United’s need for improvement following his debut match as manager, a 1-1 Premier League draw against newly promoted Ipswich Town.
United started strong at Portman Road, with Marcus Rashford scoring in the second minute thanks to an assist from Amad Diallo. However, their momentum waned as Ipswich responded, with Omari Hutchinson netting the equalizer via a deflected shot.
The match provided glimpses of Amorim’s tactical vision but also revealed weaknesses, particularly in defensive structure and pressing. Fans were quick to criticize individual performances, and Amorim echoed their concerns, specifically calling out Jonny Evans for allowing Ipswich too much attacking freedom.
Amorim Challenges Evans to Step Up
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Amorim addressed the need for improved pressing to fit his tactical approach. He pointed to Evans, who started as part of a back three alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui before being substituted for Luke Shaw in the second half.
“The number five [Ipswich’s Sam Morsy] was constantly unmarked, and we needed to press him,” Amorim explained. “Then there was the number 20 [Hutchinson], who exploited the spaces we left behind. Jonny Evans should have been pressing there.”
Amorim attributed some of the issues to a lack of preparation time. “With only two days of training, it’s difficult to explain all the necessary reactions to the players. They’re hesitant and tend to stay in their positions. If you don’t move, you’re defending passively and not running effectively.”
He also stressed the importance of fitness and tactical understanding, adding: “The data shows it. First, the players need to grasp the tactical ideas. Then, we must improve our physical condition to handle high-pressure situations and the demands of intense running. This requires time to train.”
Adjustments and Future Challenges
Amorim’s lineup featured notable tweaks, such as deploying Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot as wing-backs in a 3-4-3 system. Marcus Rashford was used as a central striker, relegating Rasmus Hojlund to the bench.
Despite the disappointing result, Amorim will have an opportunity to refine his strategies ahead of Thursday’s Europa League match against Bodø/Glimt at Old Trafford.
Currently 12th in the Premier League and six points behind the top four, the pressure is mounting for United to turn their season around. For Amorim, the key will be finding a balance between tactical clarity and physical readiness to steer the
team back on course.
