Trent Alexander-Arnold has suffered a serious injury, and the impact is nothing short of devastating. The dynamic right-back, who has been a key figure for Liverpool, is now expected to be sidelined for a significant period, leaving fans in shock and disbelief. This unexpected setback not only disrupts the team’s immediate plans but also raises concerns about their upcoming fixtures. Supporters are rallying behind Trent, hopeful for a swift recovery, while the club braces for the challenge of adapting without one of their standout players.

Alexander-Arnold’s Injury Adds to Liverpool’s Champions League Exit Woes

Liverpool’s Champions League heartbreak against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night was compounded by an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds’ vice-captain was visibly in pain after rolling his ankle in the second half at Anfield. He was forced off in the 73rd minute, with Jarell Quansah coming on as his replacement.

Following the match, manager Arne Slot admitted he would be “surprised” if the 26-year-old recovered in time for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle. That concern has now been confirmed—Alexander-Arnold will miss the crucial showdown at Wembley.

How Long Will Alexander-Arnold Be Sidelined?

Shane Ryan, a physiotherapist and director at Motherwell Physio, assessed the injury and suggested that, in the best-case scenario, the England defender could return by late April.

Discussing the injury on TikTok, Ryan explained:

“The way his foot landed looked concerning. This type of injury is characteristic of a high ankle sprain, which affects the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament (AITFL). These injuries take longer to recover from than regular ankle sprains, typically requiring six to eight weeks. However, recovery time could extend further if there is additional damage. In more severe cases, complications like fractures or long-term instability can arise.”

Will Alexander-Arnold Return Before the Season Ends?

If Ryan’s estimate is accurate, Alexander-Arnold should be back before the season concludes, easing concerns about his availability. However, with ongoing speculation about his contract situation, an extended absence could have raised the possibility that he had already played his final game for Liverpool.

His injury also means he will miss a second consecutive Carabao Cup final. With Conor Bradley also unavailable, Quansah is expected to step in at right-back against Newcastle. Though not an ideal scenario, the young defender showed promise in that role after replacing Alexander-Arnold against PSG.

One positive for Liverpool is their fixture schedule—after Sunday’s final, they won’t play again for 17 days. According to projections from Premier Injuries, this break could give Conor Bradley enough time to recover in time for the Merseyside derby on April 2.

Slot is expected to provide further updates on Alexander-Arnold’s condition in his pre-final press conference, but his remarks will likely rein

force Ryan’s prognosis.
