Liverpool Unlikely to Pursue Jeremie Frimpong as Alexander-Arnold’s Future Remains Uncertain

Despite growing speculation, Liverpool have not engaged in talks to sign Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. Recent reports suggested the Reds had initiated discussions, but sources indicate no formal negotiations are underway.

Frimpong has been a standout performer in the Bundesliga since his 2021 transfer from Celtic, drawing attention from Europe’s elite clubs. His attacking prowess and versatility make him a valuable asset, with teams like Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United also expressing interest.

Liverpool’s potential search for a right-back has been fueled by uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation. The England international’s deal expires at the end of the season, and he has yet to agree on an extension. Reports suggest Real Madrid remains interested, having previously attempted to acquire him in January at a cut-price fee. If Liverpool fail to secure his future, they could risk losing him for free—missing out on a possible Ā£100 million transfer windfall.

The club remains hopeful of tying down Alexander-Arnold to a new deal but is also preparing contingency plans. Under the guidance of sporting director Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s recruitment team is monitoring potential replacements, including Frimpong. His Dutch nationality further fuels speculation given the imminent arrival of Arne Slot as Liverpool’s new head coach.

Beyond Alexander-Arnold, the Reds face additional contract dilemmas. Key players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also approaching the end of their current deals, adding to the uncertainty ahead of what promises to be a pivotal summer transfer window.

Liverpool have already secured the signing of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for Ā£29 million, reinforcing their squad ahead of the next campaign. Additionally, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has emerged as a strong candidate to strengthen the left-back position as part of the club’s broader squad revamp.

With the summer transfer window approaching, all eyes will be on Liverpool as they navigate crucial contract negotiations and potential squad reinforcements
