Gareth Southgate is upset as England’s manager rushes to the player’s defense following more criticism and says, “It’s a joke.”
Following additional criticism of Harry Maguire following Tuesday night’s 3-1 victory against Scotland, England manager Gareth Southgate jumped to his defense.
The center-back, who has had a difficult time in his career over the previous two seasons, was the subject of new debate after the Man United star, who had been on the bench at halftime, scored an own goal in the second half.
After the game, Southgate claimed that he had never witnessed a player treated in such an unjust manner and that the criticism leveled at the defender was absurd.
Tim Spiers quoted the England manager as saying: “It’s a result of ridiculous treatment of him for a long time. It’s a joke; I’ve never seen a player treated with such disrespect by Scottish supporters, our own broadcasters, experts, or anyone else for that matter.
I’ve never seen anything like it.
