“He don’t deserve to be benched his performance was top notch but he needs coordination, Brilliant’: Chelsea Manager Pochettino stunned by what he saw from 20-year-old talent at Stamford Bridge
In the FA Cup match, Chelsea defeated Preston North End 4-0, and Alfie Gilchrist made his debut for the entire game.
When Mauricio Pochettino gave young Alfie Gilchrist his first Chelsea start against Preston North End, he showed that Chelsea had discovered a new homegrown talent that could get the fans up from their seats.
The 20-year-old certainly displayed character when he was substituted in to finish the match against Crystal Palace, which led to his Premier League minutes against Luton; however, it was in the League Cup against Preston that he truly proved he belonged.
In the second half, the Blues turned up the style to defeat Championship side Preston North End in the FA Cup. He won four of the six tackles he attempted and had a 96% passing accuracy. The victory was anticipated, but in a season where the lavishly constructed stars have taken centre stage, fans are also taking notice of another homegrown gem.
A few of them shared their joy on X, the former Twitter. “Alfie (Gilchrist) he is one of our own and it’s easy to see why John Terry likes him,” stated Derrick Gyan on his Twitter. Wonderful.
An additional fan with the handle “Probably the only positive from that half,” Felix Johnstone remarked. Despite being a natural center-back, he made several excellent tackles, cleared balls, remained composed in the box, and produced some runs.
“Couldn’t be happier for him and the whole family,” remarked Ned Ozkasim. To kick off a senior game at Stamford Bridge is a dream come true. With a display like that, it’s hard to argue against Gilchrist emerging as a fan favourite for Chelsea. He gave a really good performance, looking very at ease on the ball and defensively composed, especially while playing in an unfamiliar RB position.
