Mohamed Salah, a winger for Liverpool, lauded Kevin De Bruyne, a midfielder for Manchester City, for his intelligence.
The two have frequently faced off against one another for their respective teams, which have previously competed against one another for the Premier League championship.
Salah has chosen one City player he admires for a particular reason now that both Liverpool and City have had excellent starts to the season.
Salah had this to say about the player he believes to be the most intelligent in the division in a recent video that was posted on the official Sky Sports Premier League Twitter account. The video featured several Premier League players building their ideal top-flight player based on who has the best feet, upper body, and head.
“De Bruyne,” he replied, “because he’s really smart.”
The midfielder was acquired by City in a £55 million deal from Wolfsburg during the previous summer’s transfer window.
Since then, the Belgian has made 358 appearances for the Citizens in all leagues, tallying 96 goals and 153 assists while also collecting a wealth of awards, including five Premier League championships.
Salah isn’t the first person outside of City to praise De Bruyne’s intelligence; Thierry Henry claimed the midfielder had “the most clever brain” he has ever seen in a player back in May.
With that in mind, the 32-year-old’s involvement in so many goals throughout his tenure at City demonstrates just how shrewd of a player he is when it comes to positioning himself to score or provide goals.
