“We talked with him, his agent and the club, He will be Leaving by January”- Pep Guardiola Set to terminate Contract of £45m player
The chat Pep Guardiola had with Kalvin Phillips regarding a potential summer departure from Manchester City has been made public.
Only one year after purchasing the midfielder for £45 million from Leeds United, there were rumors that Manchester City were eager to let him depart the club during the most recent summer transfer window.
But because the Englishman chose to remain at the Etihad Stadium, the City manager has been talking about this specific circumstance and how the 27-year-old’s status in the team is currently looking.
Guardiola discussed his conversation with Phillips in his most recent press conference before today’s Premier League match against West Ham United.
We discussed the possibility of him going on loan with the club because he didn’t play much, but he made the decision to stay, the man stated.
“We are delighted to have him. They are welcome since I’m a wonderful person who takes everything and stays. Every player here will contribute when the transfer window is through because they are all a part of the family.
He has room to grow because the dynamics in his previous environment were radically different. He stayed with us, therefore it’s crucial that he is prepared for the team members who are currently injured.
It’s understandable why the team appeared willing to let Phillips leave in the summer given that he only started four of the 21 games he played in last season.
