Stupidity from Rodri! Due to his red card for grabbing Morgan Gibbs-White’s throat during a Nottingham Forest match, Man City midfielder will miss crucial Arsenal match.
Rodri, a midfielder for Manchester City, will not go to Arsenal after being dismissed for grabbing Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White by the neck.
WHAT OCCURED? In a heated argument with his opposite number, the City midfielder—whom Pep Guardiola last week described as the finest midfielder in Europe—lost his cool and shoved Gibbs-White before grabbing his neck and sending Gibbs-White to the ground. A VAR review of the dismissal of Rodri was conducted, but the decision was affirmed.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Rodri will miss the following three games for Premier League leaders City: the Carabao Cup encounter on Wednesday against Newcastle, the trip to Wolves on next Saturday, and, most significantly, the match against Arsenal on October 8.
WHAT COMES NEXT: Although it seems improbable, City will decide whether or not to appeal the red card and try to have Rodri’s punishment reduced next week. On September 30, they will play Wolves away in their next Premier League match.
