‘He knows there is competition,’ says Pep Guardiola of Manchester City’s 27-year-old midfielder.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that Jack Grealish is aware that he will have competition for his starting spot this season.
He made this disclosure during his recent news conference before of City’s forthcoming match against Young Boys (via Manchester Evening News).
It is apparent that Pep Guardiola and Jack Grealish are aware that Jeremy Doku is the latter’s main competition for a starting berth in the future.
Pep Guardiola sends Jeremy Doku a message of ‘competition’ to Jack Grealish.
Stephen Clemence described the Englishman as ‘phenomenal,’ and the Englishman might lose his position in the side as a result of the Belgian winger’s explosive start to life in sky blue.
As was the case against Brighton, the 21-year-old is a natural wideman, capable of taking on his man and creating chances for his teammates.
Pep Guardiola has now said that Jack Grealish is fully aware that Jeremy Doku is waiting in the shadows, ready to seize his position in the team.
MORE STORIES ABOUT MAN CITY
There are no qualms about Jack’s abilities or what he has done for us. This season, I arrived a little late. He needs his rhythm; he can’t leave after two or three sessions like [Phil] Foden and Bernardo [Silva]. He’ll come back, and we’ll make advantage of him. He’ll assist us. He is aware of the competition.”
Jeremy Doku poses a challenge to Jack Grealish.
Both Pep Guardiola and Jack Grealish are not naive enough to imagine that Jeremy Doku would be unwilling to make the left-wing position his own in the Manchester City starting lineup.
Grealish is concerned because, while it is true that he is not a touchline winger, Doku is.
Unlike most new widemen who struggle to adjust to Guardiola’s expectations in their first seasons, Doku has settled in like a duck to water at City.
As a result, the former Rennes sensation has the potential to cement his spot in the starting lineup permanently, leaving Jack Grealish on the bench for the duration of the upcoming season.
