Rico Lewis claims that Manchester City should only be held accountable for letting go of a two-goal lead in order to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace.
After the Eagles were dragged back into the game on 76 minutes by a penalty kick winner, Jean-Phillippe Mateta, Michael Olise snatched a point in the 95th minute. Jack Grealish and Lewis had given City a lead during an impressive performance by the home team.
For the first time since 2016, City has now given up 12 goals in six games and is without a win in three of their home Premier League games. They are still in fourth place in the standings and run the risk of losing ground in the race for the championship before they travel to Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup.
Lewis said Match Of The Day, “It’s really unfortunate but we’ve got to look at ourselves and look at our individual decisions and then look at us as a group.” No one else is to blame. We are exclusively responsible for it.
Despite having just 25% of the ball, Mateta was able to repeatedly disrupt the City defenders and win the penalty by pulling a foul from Phil Foden. Lewis stated regarding the penalty decision: “There are no grievances. It is a penalty, as declared by the referee. All I can say is that. It is up to us, as I mentioned. We are to blame. We just have complaints for ourselves, nothing else.”
In the last six Premier League games and just four of the previous 11 games in the top tier, City has only won once. At Goodison Park on Wednesday, December 22, they play Everton in their next league match.
