“I have a lot of things to say and I have to say it out. I can’t hide it anymore. Am a new player in the senior team here and I don’t care if they terminate my Contract just like dey did to cancelo”-Rico Lewis speaks out After Scoring his first premier League Goal In a post-match interview
Rico Lewis scored his first Premier League goal against Crystal Palace on Saturday, but he claims he wasn’t able to really savour the moment because Manchester City and Crystal Palace ended up drawing 2-2.
After goals from Rico Lewis nine minutes into the second half and Jack Grealish in the first half, City dominated possession and appeared to be coasting to a 2-0 lead. However, Palace responded with a goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 76th minute, and Michael Olise levelled in the fifth minute of stoppage time with a penalty kick after Mateta was fouled by Phil Foden in the box.
Lewis commented on the outcome to City’s official website after it was announced: “We are very disappointed with the result, it’s unfortunate with the performance we put in.” He continued: “It’s football and stuff can happen that you don’t expect, and that’s what happened.”
Regarding his objective, he stated: “It felt nice at the time. I can’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked to now because we’ve moved on to the next action in the game and it was kind of forgotten about.” He ended by stating: “It’s a positive in a negative, at the end of the day we wanted the result and we’ve not got it.”
It is Manchester City’s fifth defeat in six Premier League games as they have faltered once more.
They are now getting ready for Tuesday’s Club World Cup semifinal matchup against the Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan. Lewis stated: “It’s another challenge, another game for us to react and show how good we are and that’s the good thing about football, there’s always another game.” He also stated, “We need to show and prove to everyone, and more importantly to ourselves, that we can get the results we deserve.”
