Benoit Badiashile’s late substitution off the pitch against Aston Villa during Wednesday night’s FA Cup fourth-round match handed a severe blow to Chelsea’s injury concerns. One of the three lineup changes from Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Wolves included the Frenchman.
Up until the 85th minute, Badiashile and former Monaco defensive partner Axel Disasi had been incredibly impressive. With the Blues ahead 3-0, he was substituted and Alfie Gilchrist played the rest of the game.
Despite giving up a late goal, Chelsea went on to win the match 3-1 and advance to the fifth round. After a difficult week, it is a major win for manager Mauricio Pochettino.
After having a difficult week personally, Thiago Silva was replaced by Badiashile in the starting lineup. Following the loss against Wolves, the 39-year-old’s wife appeared to demand that Pochettino be fired on social media.
Silva entered the game at the end to help win it. When Moises Caicedo went down in the second half, it appeared that he had also taken a knock.
When Villa launched an attack, the Ecuadorian remained on the ground and received medical attention from the crew after Chelsea regained possession and kicked the ball out of play. Even though it appeared like he was about to be replaced, he finished The game.
