‘He doesn’t know’ -Erling Haaland brutally hits back at Alexander-Arnold after Man City spending dig
The final blow to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s criticism of Manchester City’s expenditure has been delivered by Erling Haaland.
Sunday’s Premier League match between City and Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool team at Anfield will have a significant impact on the outcome of the May championship. After 27 games, Liverpool leads City by one point.
City has won the championship five times in the previous six seasons, while Liverpool won their lone Premier League title in 2019–20. Additionally, Alexander-Arnold stated in a recent interview that Liverpool’s victories under Klopp “mean more” to the team and supporters “because of the situations at both clubs, financially.”
One need not be a specialist in finance to identify flaws in Alexander-Arnold’s case. Under Pep Guardiola, City has undoubtedly spent more than £1.2 billion on acquisitions, whereas Liverpool has only spent between £803 million and £1.28 billion. Klopp has averaged £80 million per trophy with Guardiola as his player of choice. City has won more games but also spent more money.
Erling Haaland, a striker for City, responded to his opponent’s remarks by emphasising how he felt after winning the triple crown the previous season and pointing out that Alexander-Arnold wouldn’t understand.
“If he wants to say that, that’s fine,” Haaland said to Sky Sports. It was a pleasant sensation to win the treble during my year here. I doubt he is aware of that emotion. I experienced that last season, and it was really pleasant.
Both of us and they are free to speak for as long as we like. I’m not sure why he does that, but it’s okay with me.”
When asked about the match on Sunday, Haaland reminded Liverpool that they weren’t in the battle for the title the previous season, which was another jab at them.
He continued, “It’s going to be a great game.” “Liverpool has been the best team thus far, leading the league. We need to give it our all on the pitch. We had a pretty fascinating title race last year, I believe. It’s possible that at one point someone was not quite in the lead race.
It was a kind gesture. There are so many really good players in the Premier League, which is one of its great things. The Premier League can be won by so many teams; City did so last year. We’ll give it another go. Though it won’t be simple, we’re doing well.”
