Former Chelsea star is set to leave Barcelona on a free transfer this summer

After spending two years with the Catalan giants, Marcos Alonso is scheduled to depart Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign.

The 33-year-old has had a difficult season due to injuries; he missed all of La Liga play since October due to a back issue that he had in December.

The Spain international had a major role in his debut season at Barca after leaving Chelsea in 2022. He made 37 appearances in all competitions and won La Liga.

The full-back originally signed a one-year contract, but in January of last year, he inked a new one that would keep him there until the summer of 2024.

However, Fabrizio Romano, the transfer guru, claims that the player’s time at Camp Nou is about to expire this summer due to his injuries. In an attempt to end his time at Barcelona on a high note, Alonso, who has recovered from an injury, started the 1-0 La Liga victory over Las Palmas on the bench on March 30.

The next match for Xavi’s team is a quarterfinal Champions League matchup against PSG, which gets underway in Paris on April 10.
