Manchester United are reportedly nearing the completion of Everton center-back Jarrad Branthwaite’s transfer in the coming days, according to a reliable source. Branthwaite has been a prime target for United for several months, and the deal is expected to accelerate. The Liverpool Echo reports that Everton will likely struggle to keep the 21-year-old.

Officials at Old Trafford believe the transfer will be finalized before June 30.

While it’s suggested that Everton must make significant sales by month-end to adhere to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the Echo highlights a different reason for the rush. Branthwaite’s absence from England’s Euro 2024 squad has given United a chance to fast-track the move.

Despite financial struggles, Everton are demanding a substantial fee for Branthwaite, valuing him on par with Harry Maguire, who transferred from Leicester City to Manchester United in 2019. According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton insiders insist any sale will occur only if their valuation is met and Branthwaite wants to leave. With a contract running until 2027, Branthwaite’s English nationality and left-footedness add to his premium value.

Manchester United, however, have the upper hand due to Everton’s financial troubles. Last season, Everton narrowly avoided relegation, partly due to points deductions from PSR violations. Another challenging season could see them relegated to the Championship for the first time.

Given the complexities, predicting Branthwaite’s exact transfer fee is difficult. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €26.2 million (£22.2 million), a significant rise since the season’s start.
