Fabrizio Romano has confirmed this morning that Liverpool is set to complete the signing of a wonder star Federico Chiesa from Juventus who is going to shake Premier League this Season Manchester City and Arsenal didn’t see this coming 🚨 Liverpool fans are going crazy over this! 🔥 can’t wait 😁
Liverpool supporters were likely caught off guard by the news of the club’s increasing interest in Federico Chiesa as the summer transfer window drew to a close.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on X (previously Twitter) last night that the potential deal remains very much alive, with Chiesa reportedly “eager” about the possibility of joining Arne Slot’s Liverpool lineup.
In the last season, the Italian winger scored 13 goals in 37 matches across all competitions.
How much would Liverpool need to invest in Federico Chiesa?
Reports from early August (via Mirko Di Natale and the Liverpool Echo) suggested that Juventus might be willing to accept an offer as low as £13 million for Chiesa. This would be a bargain for a player approaching the peak of his career.
Is Chiesa really that prone to injuries?
League games:
– 2023/24: 33 games played, 5 missed due to injury
– 2022/23: 21 games played, 17 missed due to a cruciate ligament tear continuing from the previous season
– 2021/22: 14 games played, 24 missed due to injury
– 2020/21: 33 games played, 3 missed due to injury
– 2019/20: 34 games played, 2 missed due to injury
Over the past five seasons, Chiesa has been available for an average of 71.05% of league games.
While Chiesa has had his share of injuries, the idea that he couldn’t be a valuable backup forward for Liverpool might be overstated.
In three of the last five Serie A seasons, the 26-year-old has played in more than 30 games in a 38-game league season (excluding other competitions).
Concerns about the Premier League’s higher intensity compared to Serie A are understandable.
However, it’s worth considering the energy-efficient style of Arne Slot’s football and the potential benefits of working with Liverpool’s lead physical performance coach, Ruben Peeters.
Is there a risk? Perhaps, but it could be a gamble worth taking if Chiesa isn’t expected to be the main forward.
