Al Ittihad Star Karim Benzema was spotted in London today as he prepares to finalize a six-month loan agreement with Chelsea Football Club. Supporters at Stamford Bridge are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Ballon d’Or winner.

According to sources speaking to ESPN, Karim Benzema felt insulted by the contract extension Al Ittihad presented to him.

The 38-year-old French striker made the decision on Thursday to remove himself from the first-team squad and has been training independently ever since.

Playing without Benzema on Thursday, Al Ittihad secured a 2-2 draw against Al Fateh in Saudi Pro League competition. Saleh Al-Shehri stepped into Benzema’s role up front and broke the deadlock in the 25th minute for Al Ittihad. The result sees the club currently occupying sixth place in the league table.

Benzema, who won the 2022 Ballon d’Or, will become a free agent when his contract expires this summer.

Sources revealed that the renewal offer put forward by the Saudi Pro League—which manages contracts for star players at PIF-owned clubs—would essentially see him playing for almost nothing financially.

The former Real Madrid captain enjoyed a decorated career with the Spanish giants, collecting 25 trophies including four LaLiga titles, three Copa del Rey victories, and five Champions League crowns. Despite the ongoing situation, he’s maintained solid form this season, scoring eight goals across 14 league appearances.

Sources confirm he is carefully weighing all his potential options moving forward.

In related news, French winger Moussa Diaby is rumored to be heading for the exit door at the club.

Additionally, French midfielder N’Golo Kanté is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Turkish side Fenerbahçe. Kanté’s contract is also due to expire this summer after completing three seasons in the Saudi Pro League.

According to reports, Al Ittihad and Fenerbahçe are currently engaged in negotiations over a transfer fee, as the Saudi club is determined to avoid losing Kanté on a free transfer.
