Manchester City owner has finally decided Joao Cancelo future at the club after Loan to Barcelona

In light of his unclear future at Manchester City, Joao Cancelo has once again expressed his wish to remain at Barcelona.

Despite having a deal with the Etihad until 2027, the defender played in La Liga on loan during the previous season. After an unpleasant departure to Bayern Munich on loan in January 2023, Cancelo doesn’t seem to have much chance of turning around his City career.

He spent the last year at Barcelona, and he has since accused Pep Guardiola and City of being unappreciative of him when he was at the Etihad and of lying about how he left.

“I truly like being at Barça, I feel extremely comfortable,” the defender, who is now playing for Portugal in the Euro 2024, has reportedly said. my wife, my daughter, and my family as well. We want to come back here next year.”

According to Spanish reports, City has informed Barcelona that they would only allow Cancelo to go on loan for a second season if they were required to buy him out for £25 million at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season. City paid almost £60 million for Cancelo.

Even if Cancelo’s inclination is obvious, Guardiola hinted at a possible City U-turn last week when he said the player would be included in the pre-season group if his future was not settled beforehand. Decisions about the 30-year-old’s future are anticipated to be made following Portugal’s 2024 European Championship campaign.

When asked about his future on the eve of the competition, Cancelo responded, “It generated a certain uneasiness [prior speculation about his future] when I was off, but, from the first day here, I forgot all that.” Barcelona is eager to re-sign him for the upcoming campaign. I have all of my attention on the national team and on supporting Portugal.

“Euro 2020 was unjust to me [after I was disqualified from the competition due to a positive Covid test], and I now feel compelled to provide an explanation for my loved ones, myself, and my friends who shared my desire of being here on this day.” I shall so lay everything on the line, give it my best, and do everything in my power to support Portugal.”
