According to reports, Benzema had disagreements with Nuno Espirito Santo, his now-former manager, who was fired in November.

Naturally, a lot of well-known Premier League teams are interested in signing the 2022 Ballon d’Or as they desperately need to buy a striker before the January transfer window closes.

Last year, in an attempt to fill the interim gap left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, United turned to the loan market when Erik ten Hag signed Wout Weghorst.

Even with the additional investment made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority stake holder, United has limited money once more this month, and Benzema may be acquired.

This season, Ten Hag’s team has managed a pitiful 24 goals from 21 games, and with Anthony Martial being benched by his manager, finding a new forward is becoming more and more important.

The situation is similar at Chelsea, where Mauricio Pochettino has not yet been given a productive striker even after spending more than £1 billion on new players during the previous 18 months.

Summertime acquisition While Nicolas Jackson’s form has been inconsistent since leaving Villarreal, Christopher Nkunku had to wait until last month to make his Premier League debut and has already experienced a setback in his fitness.

The club’s only other recognised striker, Armando Broja, is free to depart if Chelsea can find a replacement and their £50 million valuation is reached. The Senegal international is now serving in the AFCON.

Arsenal is also searching for a new striker, and considering that Ivan Toney is unlikely to leave Brentford until the summer despite appearing to do a U-turn on Wednesday, a loan transfer for Benzema may make sense.

With two and a half years remaining on his present contract, Al Ittihad is unwilling to lose its prize asset this month.

However, Benzema is probably going to be convinced that he has a chance to force a return to a major European club within the next two weeks if Jordan Henderson prevails in his battle of wills with Al Ettifaq prior to his upcoming move to Ajax.
